The HD barrier is broken
What is a Blu-Ray Video Disc?
In easy to understand terms, it's a video disc much like a
DVD but with the ability to display much higher resolution video. PAL DVD can only store 576 vertical lines of video information where Blu Ray disc can store 1080 lines. For
HDTV owners also equipped with HD camcorders, this now allows them to
do away with hooking up the camera every time
to play
some video in HD.
You just can't appreciate your new HD camcorder's
resolution if you put your video on DVD.
What about HD-DVD?
HD-DVD was the competing format for the next generation of video disc. It shared many of the same features of Blu Ray disc and was backed by main player Toshiba with some support from Microsoft. However as of early 2008 Toshiba had officially ended it's business strategy support for HD-DVD, meaning Blu-ray disc is the un-challenged king of high def optical disc delivery.
